In Pune, two more software engineers fall for online task bait, lose Rs 14 lakh

The Hadapsar and the Kondhwa police are currently conducting investigations in separate cases involving cybercriminals who scammed two software engineers out of Rs 14 lakh between the months of March and April through part-time jobs.

An officer from the Kondhwa police informed TOI that the complainant was promised 24 tasks, 20 of which were regular and four were prepaid. Additionally, she was guaranteed a 40% profit. The officer stated, “The woman successfully completed all 24 tasks and earned a substantial amount of money.”

Following this, she was instructed to purchase bitcoins. “Initially, the woman bought bitcoins worth Rs 1.5 lakh. However, when she attempted to sell the bitcoins as per their instructions, the scammers informed her that there was an error in the transaction and asked her to transfer Rs 3 lakh to rectify it,” the officer explained.

Once the money was transferred, she was informed that she had earned a total of over Rs 10 lakh, including the profit, and was asked to transfer Rs 3 lakh as a security deposit. “Between the 7th and 12th of March, the woman transferred a sum of Rs 11.25 lakh to various bank accounts,” the officer revealed.

In the Hadapsar case, the complainant, a 29-year-old software engineer, stated that on April 7th, he was offered a part-time job. “Initially, he was instructed to complete the tasks and earned money in return. However, he was subsequently enticed to invest money and earn more,” the officer disclosed. Once the engineer realized he was being scammed, the criminals embezzled Rs 2.8 lakh from his account.
