ChatGPT maker OpenAI is considering an app store for AI software: Report

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is reportedly planning to expand its influence in the AI chatbot space by launching an app store. According to sources familiar with discussions at the company, OpenAI is considering creating a marketplace where customers can sell customised AI models to other businesses.

Collaboration with other organizations to provide AI-powered tools is not new for OpenAI. The company received significant funding from Microsoft and has collaborated with Microsoft’s rivals, such as Salesforce and DuckDuckGo. In some cases, Microsoft and OpenAI even pitch the same customers.

In response to increasing competition, OpenAI recently upgraded its text-generating models and reduced pricing. They released new versions of GPT-3.5-turbo and GPT-4, with GPT-4 introducing a function calling capability for developers.

AI chatbots have become popular among companies for various use cases. They are used for customer services and marketing, and even tech giants like Google and Microsoft are exploring AI-powered ad creation. Opera, for example, launched Opera One, a browser infused with generative AI. The browser features Aria, the first-ever native browser AI, powered by OpenAI’s GPT model.
